ECCBA EASTERN COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

On Sunday 14th April, Suffolk hosted the Eastern Counties Championship at Littleport. Unfortunately Bedfordshire were unable to raise a team this year, which left five counties to compete for the title.

Session 1
Suffolk started with an 8-4 session win over Essex, while Cambridgeshire just edged out Norfolk for a 7-5 win.

Hertfordshire sat out the session.

Session 2
Another good session for Suffolk as they beat Hertfordshire 8-4, while Cambridgeshire and Essex shared the points, 6-6.

Norfolk sat out the session.

Session 3
While the other three teams sat out, Hertfordshire took on Norfolk, gaining a resounding 10-2 win.

With all the teams now having played the same numebr of games, it was Suffolk leading Herts by 2 points, and Cambs by 3.

Session 4
Suffolk only just got the better of Cambridgeshire, 7-5, while Norfolk had a great session against Essex, winning 10-2.

Suffolk were now 5 points better off than Cambridgeshire, with Norfolk one point further back. Hertfordshire were 9 points off the lead, but had one session in hand.

Session 5
Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire played while the rest sat out. Both would be looking for a big win. And it was Herts that came out on top, winning 4 of the 6 games.

Cambridgeshire were now out of contention, having played all their games, while Herts were now just a point behind leaders Suffolk, with one session to go.

Session 6
Herts took 4 of their 6 games against Essex, but so did Suffolk against Norfolk, while meant that Suffolk hung on to retain the title by a solitary point.

Norfolk almost pipped Cambridgeshire for third place, falling just a point short, while Essex never recovered from that big loss to Norfolk.
