We were represented by the following players:
Team 1 - Martyn MacDonald, Lin Hurren, Patricia Ball and Neil Rixon
Team 2 - Susan Savage, Pauline Baynes, Mike Walker and George Savage

Bedfordshire were made to feel very welcome on arrival. The weather was glorious outside and there was a nice atmosphere.

We got off to a flyer in the first session winning both games. Neil’s team were very impressive with a 14 – 7 win. George Savage put his first two woods off the mat but his team clinched it 7 – 6.

Another great game for Neil’s team in the second session winning 13 – 4 and that was after a slow start. Harold’s team had to put up more of a fight and managed a draw 12 – 12.

We stopped for afternoon tea which was splendidly laid on by West Sussex

There were mix fortunes in the third session. Both games were tight with just one shot in it in at the end of both, Harold winning 6 - 5 and George’s team losing 6 – 7.

Since we could only field three teams The fourth session was played out by Neil and Harold’s teams who finished as the top two teams from the three previous sessions. So went they went through to the fourth.

The spoils were shared in this last session. A good, tough win for Harold 10 – 9, but a loss for Neil’s team 4 – 12.

Overall a good day had by all. Bedfordshire finished on 11 points with 72 shots while West Sussex finished on 5 points with 62 shots.

Our time down south was finished off with a lovely evening in the Premier Inn bar and restaurant. Unfortunately, Neil had to return back that evening for an early start for work next day. He will tell you though, if you really want to know, about the Fish and Chips saga the night before!

I would like to thank the Bedfordshire team for giving a much improved West Sussex team a good game. The social side of the weekend was excellent. Well done to all.

It was a great afternoon, thanks to all those who supported the day playing, watching, running the raffle, catering and made our guests so welcome.

We are already looking forward to a rematch next season.

Bedfordshire on Tour 2014

On Sunday 9th March 16 players from Bedfordshire travelled to Selsey to play west Sussex in a County friendly.

We played in four rinks on two mats there was some excellent bowling on display from both sides and particularly impressive were Sussex who have no full county team.

The eight games were played in two halves with a tea break in the middle and the final shot count was West Sussex 62 Bedfordshire 70 with Beds winning 6 Matches to 2.

All the games were played in a superb spirit and resulted in a very relaxed but competitive afternoon which was enjoyed by all.

Equally was the tea provided by West Sussex sandwiches and cakes were fantastic as vouched for by a certain County Captain !!!!!

Thanks to all the Bedfordshire players who attended to represent the County. They were George & Susan Savage, Andrew, Sharon and Mathew Hatton, Martyn & Sue and Robert MacDonald, Harold & Patricia Ball, Lyn & Paul Hurren, Janet & Keith Cockings, Betty Johnson and Mike Walker .

We would like to thank West Sussex for a splendid afternoon and for playing bowls as it should be, competitive but huge fun and also for the superb weather which found a few of us on the beach in the morning.
